Things To Do At Home
Obviously we all know what is going on right now and the best place to be is at home. Of course I am aware that some people still have to go to work and need to shop for food (Of course that is a struggle in itself with all the empty shelves).
I just thought I'd make this post to give you a few ideas on what to do during this quarantine/self-isolation/self-distancing.
1. Read a book
Now is the perfect time to go through your tbr list or read your favourite books. It's a good way to entertain ourselves without having to focus on a screen. So start reading your favourite book. Even listening to an audiobook counts as a reading. I would recommend the Harry Potter audiobook series as Stephen Fry's voice is very relaxing to listen to.
2. Binge watch a TV series
Now is the time where we have an excuse to binge watch a TV series whether it's a brand new series or one that you've seen many times before. Now you have an excuse to binge watch loads of episodes without feeling guilty that you're wasting time. Hopefully it will distract from what is going on in the world.
3. Pamper session
It a good time to take care of ourselves and our skin. Of course wash your hands but don't forget the rest of your body. Have a shower or a bath. Relax. Do a face mask if you have one in stock. Paint your nails, work on your skincare routine. Just take a few little steps to pamper yourself as it will make you feel good.
4. Do a jigsaw puzzle
I find jigsaw puzzles to be relaxing. Plus you can do a jigsaw puzzle while listening to music or watching something on your laptop like a TV show or a movie. It will keep you occupied for the day and you will feel proud when you complete it.
5. Try some baking/cooking
Now is the time to start experimenting in the kitchen. Try out some recipes in a cookbook or online of things you have in stock. You could make a meal that could last for a few days. The other day I used a lot of spare vegetables like potatoes, leek, parsnip, courgettes, onions and celery to make a really nice vegetable soup. So try learn some new recipes during this period.
6. Write a novel
Something that has definitely been keeping me occupied is my novel. I have nearly finished writing now that I am spending a lot of time at home. It feels good knowing I am working on this novel and it is distracting me from everything else.
7. Play a video game
I feel lucky that I have a Playstation Two and Three. I have really been enjoying replaying all the Harry Potter games recently and it's just something fun to do while passing the time. Especially when the game has a full story line you can get lost in. Also the beauty of the internet nowadays is there are many walkthroughs and Lets Players so if you get stuck at one particular point then you can easily find out how to overcome it. I sometimes like to play a video game while watching a Lets Player on YouTube because it feels like having a friend over playing it along with you, plus sometimes the commentary is pretty entertaining too.
8. Gardening/Growing an indoor plant
Now is a good time to take advantage of your garden if you have one to get some fresh air now and then. You can take the time to tidy up your garden or do a bit of gardening by planting a few seeds or watering the plants. Before the lock down, I got a little M&S seedling which is Violas which I planted and slowly they are sprouting up. It made me feel proud when I saw the little green stems poke out of the soil. I am also trying to grow a cactus plant which I have yet to see any progress on but I know it'll be worth it once they grow.
9. Painting/colouring/art
Now is a good time to get a little creative. I bought a load of colouring books ages ago which I have yet to complete so now I have a little time to do some colouring in. Nobody was kidding when they said colouring in was therapeutic. You could even try your hand at doing a little painting if you have some paints around the house. Maybe try making a collage using old magazines. It will honestly make you happy and you can always practise it. You now have plenty of time to do it.
10. Movie Day/Night
It's a great time to just chill out and have a movie day/night. Whether you marathon your favourite movie series or just watching all your favourites in a row. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy a movie. Whether you do on your own or with your household. You can have a good time. You can even discover a new favourite movie.
11. Clean your makeup brushes
With the coronavirus going around, one thing you should probably consider doing is cleaning your makeup brushes. I know while I am staying at home that I am not really wearing any makeup because what is the point so I may as well clean my makeup brushes while I am not using my makeup. Just to be on the safe side.
12. Organise your bedroom
Now is a good time to start organising your bedroom. You are most likely going to be spending a lot of time in your bedroom this month so you may as well organise and sort things out. Maybe you can rearrange your furniture and try something new. Have a little declutter session. Even changing your bed sheets is a good way to organise your bedroom. It can be a little change or a big change in your bedroom. Just have fun with it. Afterall, it is your bedroom.
13. Learn a new language
Why not learn a skill while we at home. They are plenty of ways to learn a new language online. I really want to try learning sign language as it would be a really useful skill to have in life. It is a good way to feel like you're being productive on the days where you're are not really productive.
14. Learning to play an instrument
You may have an old guitar or an instrument in your home. Why not try learning to play an instrument? You may not even need an instrument. You can make music through the use of cups or even spoons. It will be a fun little exercise to do by learning to play an instrument.
Anyway, that's all the things I can think of that you can do at home. I am sure there are plenty more things you can do at home. If you have any other ideas on things to do at home, I would love to hear them. We can help each other out during this time where we should be staying at home. The more ideas the better.
Thank you for reading my post and I'll be back with another tomorrow.
See you then.
