My Top Five Books Of 2020
This year I did a lot of reading and read over 30 books which is probably the most books I've read in a year. I managed to get through a lot of books I've been meaning to read and some of them I really loved so I thought I'd make a list of my top five books I read in 2020. There is a very obvious contemporary romance theme but that is my favourite genre so let's get started.
1. I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk
I've been meaning to start the I Heart series by Lindsey Kelk and I managed to find time during the lockdown to read the first book in the series. I'm really glad I did because this story was amazing. After a break up, Angela makes a spontaneous trip to New York and it honestly was so fun to read. We've all experienced heartbreak in our lives so this story was very inspiring that instead of being upset over heartbreak, you should do something spontaneous and go on an adventure. Obviously in the current circumstances we won't be able to travel. Although if anything this year has taught us, life is too short to be upset so we got to make the most of a bad situation and find the joy in it. I really enjoyed reading this story and found some inspiration to bring into my own life. I would highly recommend it.
2. Some Kind Of Wonderful by Giovanna Fletcher
There seems to be a theme of books as a lot of them start with a break up. This one is the same as it starts with a cute romantic holiday and ends with a break up. However, instead of a story of moping around it becomes an inspiring story about finding yourself and realising your full potential. This is the first book I've read of Giovanna Fletcher but I absolutely loved it. The story flowed beautifully and it's definitely another feel good read especially after this whole year, we all need a feel-good moment from time to time and this was definitely one of them.
This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for a while, I bought it when it first came out and I just never read it for some reason. Instead though I bought the audiobook and listened to it while reading it too. That may sound like a weird thing to do but sometimes I get lazy with reading but it's nice to have someone reading for me. I can also go do other things while listening to the book. It's actually quite nice and just motivates me to keep going with the story. I would highly recommend it if you're struggling with reading to find the audiobook and you may find it much easier to read. I really enjoyed this book as I do with a lot of Sophie Kinsella books. They are like the romantic comedy of books. Through a series of mistakes and favours, Fixie gets caught up in all the drama as she has to fix things and make things right. It was a fun story and very heart warming. Another great story from Sophie Kinsella and I would highly recommend it.
4. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
I love this film and decided to get the book for it. I've honestly never read a Nicholas Sparks book before this but I know he's a well known author who has written some amazing books. I decided to give this one a read and like with the previous, I also downloaded the audiobook because as we've established I'm a lazy reader sometimes. I'm really glad I did get the audiobook though because it worked so well with this story. It's told from different character perspectives and the audiobook is read by two people as well. It also had music during some tension scenes particularly with the character of Marcus which really set the chapter up very well. It has so much more tiny details that the film misses out on but that's what makes the book so great. I'm really happy I read this as it has romance, family and heartbreak. Definitely another one I would recommend.
5. It's Not You It's Him by Sophie Ranald
My final book and surprise surprise it's another that starts with a break up. Although the clue's in the title so it's not really a spoiler. I just think I was drawn to the break up stories that are all about finding yourself afterwards. I love books that you can relate to the characters and go through the same emotions they're going through. Getting dumped really does suck and this story has everything that usually happens when you get dumped. Scroll through old photos, drunk text your ex and lots of crying. It's all about Tansy wanting to get her ex back after being dumped by him. The story takes you on a self growth journey and it's the perfect story to read if you've ever been dumped or rejected because it teaches you a few life lessons on the way. This is the first book I've read of Sophie Ranald and I'm really glad I did because this book was amazing. Definitely another highly recommended one.
There we have it, my top five books of 2020. I know three of them had a theme of breaking up and finding yourself but honestly they are three great books and the other two were perfect too. I was really happy I did a lot of reading this year. One thing that 2020 has helped me out with is reigniting my love of reading and I've managed to get through my tbr list, I now have only eight books left on my bookshelf to read which is amazing.
So yeah, let me know what has been your favourite book that you read in 2020. I would love to hear it and get your book recommendations. I know this year has sucked for all of us but it's been nice to escape into a different story from time to time.
Thank you for reading my blog and I hope the last few days of 2020 treat you right. I'll be back again for an end of year post in a few days time.
See you then.
