Video Game Nostalgia
Something
I don’t really talk about on this blog is video games. Probably because I’m not
some hardcore gamer with the latest consoles. I literally only have a PS2
(which is the best console to ever exist) and a PS3. Although I’m hoping to get
a PS4 soon if only it would come back in stock where I live. It will happen one
day.
Anyway,
I wanted to go on a little nostalgia trip of game series that is a very
memorable part of my childhood and I thought why not share it with you right
now.
Bet you didn’t think I’d be mentioning a PS1 game first well I am. This game and the whole series have a lot of memories for me. I grew up with a big brother and a dad who owned the PS1 (yes, I am that old) and one of the games they played was Tomb Raider. Now I didn’t play it myself because I was a scaredy cat and the wolves on the first level terrified me. I just have memories of watching either my brother or dad play this game. I was mesmerised that they were playing a female character. Little me didn’t realise the sex appeal of the character could potentially be the reason but still. It was fascinating and I became in love with the character. Probably because I loved the Angelina Jolie movie too but still. I have a lot of memories of some of the Levels like Larson and the T-Rex. My dad and brother had a physical book walkthrough to help them get through the levels because there were no easy access internet walkthroughs in the late nineties and early 2000s.
Now I’ve only completed 4 of the tomb
raider games including anniversary, which is a remake of the first PS1 game,
but I never completed the first game. I decided to bite the handle and play it
because I felt like a traitor to the tomb raider series if I haven’t at least
finished the first ever game, so I did just that. I got to say the controls are
awful but eventually you get used them and I couldn’t help comparing it to the
Anniversary because it is a remake of this very game. However it brought a lot
of nostalgia and while it can be frustrating to play at times especially with
those save crystals dotted around which made it even a struggle if you saved
too early or too late in the level. Particularly the first Greece level was a
pain. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I used an online walkthrough called Stella’s
Walkthrough I believe (definitely a very detailed walkthrough and super handy
at times). I did try not to use it but at times it really helped when I got
stuck. Overall it was a nice nostalgia trip, and it was very satisfying to
complete it finally after all these years. I would highly recommend going back
and playing it again. Although personally out of the two PS1 Tomb Raiders I’ve
completed, I prefer Tomb Raider 2 as a good game to go back and replay.
Although it is my favourite out of all the Tomb Raider games, I’ve played.
Either way if you were a fan of the tomb raider games on the PS1 why not take a
trip down memory lane and give them a try. I’m currently playing Tomb Raider 3
on the PS1 as I’m trying to complete all the ones on PS1. It’s an interesting
game so far although I have very little memory of it compared to the first two games,
so we’ll see how it goes.
Anyway, that was a little ramble of a nostalgia trip I’ve been on recently with Tomb Raider on PS1. Let me know what your favourite Tomb Raider game is I would love to hear your thoughts.
Also
if you’re curious the Tomb Raider games, I’ve completed are:
- Tomb Raider (PS1)
- Tomb Raider 2 (PS1) - My Favourite
- Tomb Raider Legend
- Tomb Raider Anniversary
- Tomb Raider (2013)
So
yeah, I hope you enjoyed this post. Thank you for reading my blog and I’ll be
back soon with another post.
See you then
