My Top 10 Movies
We all have those movies that make us feel good and never let us down whenever we put them on. I thought why not share my top ten favourite movies that I absolutely love. I did this list back in 2017 and my list has slightly changed in those five years since writing that post and I'm definitely happy with all the films I have on this list.
1. Cruella
This may be no surprise to anyone why this is on my list if you've been reading my blog back in November 2021 as I dedicated an entire post to my favourite movie which is Cruella. Honestly, I absolutely love this film. I thought it was just perfectly cast, It's what you want from a remake, a backstory of one of their most notorious villains. I actually went to watch this movie twice in the cinema because I loved it so much and bought it on Amazon the minute it came out. It just gives you everything you want and has the most amazing costume design I've seen in a long time. It's definitely a feel good movie, and I could go on about this movie but I have another nine more on this list that I need to talk about. If you want an in-depth into why I love this movie then I'll leave a link at the bottom of this post to my post about my favourite movie Cruella.
2. Harry Potter Series
This should be no surprise if you've been reading my blog and know me. I love the Harry Potter series as it was a huge part of my childhood but also because it's the movies of my favourite book series. Honestly, I could put any Harry Potter movie on and always enjoy it. It just makes me incredibly happy, and you have to give an honourable mention to the amazing cast of the series. The fact that most of them did all seven movies was amazing and we were able to watch them grow alongside them. Harry Potter is just one of those things that will forever be a part of my life and the movies will hold a special place in my heart along with the books.
3. The Devil Wears Prada
This one is an iconic movie alone because it introduces to the iconic Miranda Priestly. It's a feel good film and sets you up for the reality of working life where you'll sometimes end up with a mean boss and your job is a major part of your life. I have to mention this movie as it's one of those movies that always makes me feel motivated to be productive. I sometimes watch it to get motivated to write a blog post because in a weird way blogging is like an online magazine where you have a number of articles to read and it's just a fun movie to watch, especially when you feel like Miranda Priestly is looking at you and judging you through the screen. It's that iconic. Honestly if you haven't watched this movie then you are missing out because it is an iconic movie of the noughties that needs watching.
4. The Intern
I find this movie to be an unappreciated masterpiece that deserves a lot of credit. It has two iconic actors starring in it who are Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. This is honestly a feel good movie which is so inspiring and shows you're never too old to fulfil your dreams. It's about living in the moment and leave you wanting your life to be fulfilled to the fullest. If you're looking for a bit of inspiration in your life then I'd highly recommend this film because honestly, it gives you that motivation to try something new or just realise that you need to get out of the house and go somewhere in order to live your best life. It's definitely one of those feel good films and doesn't get enough credit. Definitely one I would highly recommend.
5. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Of course, I have to mention another Disney movie, but this is honestly one of my favourites of the Disney classics. I think I love it so much because I relate to Belle so much. I sometimes feel like I'm the odd one in my life and I would most definitely rather have my head stuck in a book. She's just so relatable to me and that is why I love this movie. It was definitely one of those movies that I loved as a child because I would always put on my VHS (yes, I am that old) of this movie and watch it plus I had a lot of beauty and the beast themed things like a suitcase and a jewellery. One thing I didn't have which is major childhood regret is I never had Belle's dress. Mainly because my family was poor, and those dresses are expensive. Even so I do regret never having to live my Belle fantasy of wearing her dress and just reading a book. The temptation to do it as adult now that I have my own money is something I'm trying to resist the urge to do. Even writing this post, I went to Amazon to google Belle's dress adult size and it's still expensive but maybe one day I will live that dream. If I ever get married, then I'm definitely have a Disney theme hen party or a Harry Potter theme actually. We shall see, maybe I will live my Belle fantasy one day.
6. Pirates Of The Caribbean series
I have to give this a major shout out because this is an iconic series in itself. It introduced us to the famous Captain Jack Sparrow and honestly if they try to reboot this series without Jack Sparrow then it will fail horribly. Honestly, I actually first watched this series as a teenager when the first movie was playing on Disney Cinemagic (please tell me anyone remembers this channel that was on the kids channel and played Disney movies). Honestly, I loved the first movie so much and had to watch the next two afterwards as it was just a trilogy then. I can safely say this series was the start of a very long teenage obsession of Johnny Depp that my whole family got sick of me for going on about Johnny Depp. Either way I still have appreciation of Johnny Depp and the work he has done but honestly Captain Jack Sparrow is an iconic character and nobody, but Johnny Depp could play him.
7. Shrek
Who doesn't love Shrek? So many iconic quotes, memes and just a major part of anyone's childhood who grew up in the noughties. As I was thinking about this list, I went back on my previous list and was surprised I didn't mention this movie as it is such an iconic movie. Even Shrek 2 is such an iconic film and I also have a secondary love of Shrek because it has a musical which made me realise why I love this movie. I watched Shrek the Musical on the plane back from New York and honestly, I was crying and laughing in my seat. It was so good. I loved it and when I realised, I could get it on DVD, I got it. It has such an incredible soundtrack and I feel it is such an underappreciated musical. If you love Shrek, then I would highly recommend watching Shrek the Musical because it is so good. I felt I just had to mention it because honestly it is one of my favourite musicals of all time. Of course I love the movie Shrek as well, but I felt the musical also deserved an honourable mention on this list of my favourite movies.
8. Pride
This movie is an unappreciated British masterpiece. It is such a beautiful film. I remember watching this very randomly in my local arts centre with my Media Studies class and honestly, I was so glad I did because this is such a beautiful film. I even bought the DVD when it came out mainly so I can analyse it even further for my media studies exam but I'm so happy I came across this movie because it's an inspiring story. Everyone in Britain knows of the miner strikes and Thatcher's reign. Especially if you've seen Billy Elliot but this tells the story of an LGBT group who decided to raise money for a mining community in South Wales. I think I love this movie because I live in Wales and feel Wales doesn't get enough mention whenever people talk about the UK. It's a beautiful nation in itself. This movie though has an incredible cast that tells this true story and even makes you inspired to want to do better things with your life. It's an underrated British movie that deserves way more credit that it has and another movie I would highly recommend you watch.
9. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
This may be the most randomest movie on this list and I probably wouldn't have mentioned it if I had not seen it again recently with my movie. However, I was reminded of my love of this movie and realised that I could probably make a good attempt at quoting this movie word for word. That's how you know how many times you've watched a movie when you know the words. This movie just has so many iconic quotes in it that were a huge part of my childhood and the fact I watched it with my brother too bring back all those memories of watching SpongeBob when we were younger. This one of those reasons why I had to mention it because it is one of those movies that I know will make me happy when I watch it and always make me laugh even though I've seen it hundreds of times, it still makes me laugh to this day. That is why it's one of my favourite movies and makes it onto my top ten list.
10. Peter Pan (2003)
Finally, I had to end this with another childhood classic. I remember watching this in cinema when I was seven and absolutely loving it. I remember me and my brother used to re-enact scenes from the movie when we got the DVD. We even had plastic swords and everything. It's just a beautiful film and definitely an amazing live action remake of a classic and Disney didn't even make this movie. This is honestly the best adaption of Peter Pan out there and if anyone (I'm looking at you Disney) tries to remake another version of Peter Pan then it will never hold a candle to this one. Also this movie had me crushing on Jeremy Sumpter when I was teenager (yes, I had a lot of random celebrity crushes when I was a teenager, I would list but then I would have to explain myself. In fact I may have just giving myself an idea for a blog post so if you want to see who my teenage celebrity crushes are then stay tuned for that post [in June as I've already written all of May's blog posts]). Either way this movie is a beautiful movie and definitely one of my favourites.
There we have it. Those are my top ten movies. Let me know if any of these are your favourites in the comments below. Thank you for reading my blog and I'll be back tomorrow with another post.
See you then.
