Packing Tips
As it's coming up to the travel season where the Easter holidays are upon us and it will soon be Summer. Plus I'm going away this weekend to Dublin which I'm very excited about so I thought it would be a good idea to share some packing tips with you to help you with your packing needs.
Let's get started.
Make a list
One of the best ways to get organised with your packing is to make a list. Sometimes just writing everything you need for your trip down will keep you on track and will also make you less likely to forget anything. Plus you can prioritise all your essentials for your trip. I like to split my list up into sections such as my suitcase and my carry on as well as my liquids. It just makes your packing so much easier when you make a list.
Packing Cubes
One of the things that makes packing so much easier is packing cubes. It minimises space in your suitcase but it also keeps your suitcase organised. Even when you reach your destination, it makes unpacking so much easier as you know where everything is and it's less chaotic.
Less is more
Sometimes it can be tempting to pack everything but the kitchen sink but in reality you are most likely not going to need it all. Try to minimise your packing especially if you're flying with just a carry on. You need to prioritise your essentials. For my trip, I'm taking my everyday rucksack that I know I will use on a day to day basis and my purple carry-on suitcase as it's convenient with its four wheels and it's compact. Plus it makes it easier to carry around the airport as my hands are free to drag my suitcase and I have a spare hand that's not being weighed down by a tote bag.
Don't rely on just in cases
One thing that people rely on when it comes to packing is just in case. What if there's a pool or what if it rains or what if we go on a hike etc. Unless you know you're definitely doing a certain activity, don't pack something just in case it happens because most likely it won't unless you actually planned for it on your trip. Also remember, you're not going to the middle of nowhere (unless you are) but most likely there will be shops around where you'll be able to buy things if you've forgotten anything or need something last minute like a swimming costume. Either way you'll have shops around so if you forget anything, you will be okay and it's not the end of the world so don't rely on just in cases when it comes to packing.
Plan Outfits
Once upon a time, I used to just throw clothes in my case just because it was summery or I liked it but I didn't really think about what went together. This meant I'd be left with clothes only once because certain items didn't mix with others. It's great to be able to mix and match your outfits. Where it's one top and different bottoms or one bottom and different tops. It can give your clothes multipurpose but also save you room in the long room because essentially you're packing less but using the clothes on multiple days. Plus when you plan your outfits, it gives you an idea of what you need and you're also prepared for each day you're away with what you're going to wear.
Weigh your luggage
It's really important especially when you're flying with just carry on to weigh your luggage and make sure within the allowance. The last thing you want to do is pay extra charges for overweight luggage. The same with the size of your luggage. Some airlines have guidelines on the size of your carry-on suitcase so with peace of mind, measure up your luggage just to make sure it's within the guidelines just to be on the safe side. It can really help you out in the long run and make your packing a bit easier knowing your within the luggage allowance.
Decorate your luggage
This is optional but it will also make your life easier if you're collecting your suitcase from baggage claim to make sure your luggage has some identifiable features. I'm travelling with a purple suitcase which is a random colour but you never really know if anyone has the same suitcase as you. This is why you need to add some personal touches such as a luggage tag, ribbon on the handle, stickers or a luggage strap around your case. This will make your case more identifiable and also in the worst case scenario that your suitcase gets lost, at least you'll be able to describe the different identifiable features.
There we have it. Those are my packing tips. Let me know in the comments below if you have any other packing tips. I would love to hear them.
Thank you for reading my blog and I'll be back tomorrow with another post for you.
See you then.
