Dublin Photo Journal
Last weekend, I was in Dublin and I thought it would be a fun idea to share a photo journal with you of the trip so here it is.
Our journey began after I finished work where we travelled up to Liverpool. We went through the Mersey tunnel and made our way to the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool which was a hotel I've stayed in many times and always enjoyed. We then went for a walk around Liverpool and ended up in Matthew Street which is always fun to walk through. After we got back to the hotel and was able to catch up on the Apprentice.
The next day we made our way to Liverpool John Lennon Airport which is an airport I've never been to before. It was pretty straightforward, although security was pretty stressful. It's why we had to have a cheeky beverage at 10am in the morning before making our way to the gate. The flight itself was alright although very bumpy. We went right at the back of the plane and had a window seat. It was a pretty nice flight and went so quick that before you know it we were already reaching our descent.
When we got to Dublin, we did the long walk through the airport and luckily didn't need baggage claim as we were just travelling with just carry on. When we got outside, we saw the Dublin express advertised and I'd actually googled the bus route we needed to take which is always a good idea because it will give you an idea on where you're going. That was handy so we were able to get the bus and it took us about twenty minutes or so. Our stop was actually the first stop so that was even more handy.
We stayed in the Travelodge Plus in Dublin City Centre and it was actually really nice there. We ended up staying on the seventh floor which was the top floor but that was okay because the hotel had four lifts so we never had to wait too long for a lift. It was an ideal location and we also had breakfast which was delicious. Honestly you can't go wrong with a Travelodge.
Of course we couldn't resist exploring the city. We ended up walking a lot on our trip and did around 70,000 steps during the bank holiday weekend which was amazing but honestly didn't feel like it. Although by Sunday, our legs were little achy from all the walking we did. There was so much to see. Even just walking through the Temple bar was an experience.
We ate at some nice places like the Hard Rock Cafe, Elephant & Castle and Smokin Bones which were very nice places to eat.
We did go on two bus tours. One of the reasons we went on two was because the first one we went on, we ended up losing the ticket on the first day and only saw a couple of stops. Either way, we made the most as we had our Euros in cash and thought what else are we going to spend our money on so we decided to go on a bus tour. Our first bus tour was Do Dublin bus tour and we had a really lovely driver who sang us a traditional Irish song on the way which was nice. The next bus tour we chose was the Big Bus Tour which again was a lovely tour and had a nice driver too. Either way they were good bus tours and well worth it for the hop on and hop off, unless you accidentally lose your ticket and end up walking back to where you came from luckily it was only at the Dublin Castle we had got off at so it wasn't very far. Either way it was really nice weather for the tour and at one point we did pass the President of Ireland twice as he was going back to his residency after the Easter service which was pretty cool. I'd highly recommend going on a bus tour because you do see so much.
One thing we did as well while in Dublin was visit Dublin Castle and it definitely wasn't one I was expecting. I was expecting castle ruins but no it's a very modern castle and we ended up touring around seeing all the fancy rooms and portraits which was quite interesting. We then went to the Wax museum which was quite fun and definitely not what I was expecting but it was good value for money and something fun to do. The best thing to do is not take it too seriously and it was still quite interesting to visit.
I also had half a pint of Guinness and as much as I tried to drink it, it's definitely not a drink for me. I think I drank half of it before giving the rest to my mum. I did try but unfortunately I'll stick to my usual drink of rum and coke.
Dublin was such a lovely city to visit and I really did enjoy myself. Definitely a nice trip to take for a weekend. I kind of wished I'd done more but it was still a nice trip nonetheless. Maybe next year I'll take a trip to Northern Ireland and visit Belfast as that would be nice.
There we have it, that was my Dublin photo journal. Thank you for taking the time to view my blog and I'll be back again soon with another post.
See you then.
