How To Plan Blog Posts

You've got a blog and now all you need is some posts. Here's how to plan your posts.

Get a dedicated planner or notebook for your blog
This really helps to keep things organised by having a dedicated planner or a notebook for your blog. You can write down your post ideas, plans for what you're going to post and just keep track of everything. I got a notebook from Poundland and it really helps me out because it's something I've always used for my blog to have a dedicated notebook. This is one of my most important tools when it comes to planning my blog posts so I highly recommend it.

Work out your posts for the month
Something that really helps is making sure you're a month ahead. It's good to work out what posts you want to post for the month. For me, I already know two guaranteed posts for the month as I do it for every month and that's a chapter post at the beginning of the month then a favourites post at the end of the month. I then put into consideration a few factors like the season, the month, are there any special occasions or things people do a lot in a particular month. I'm currently writing this post in the month of April because I work on my posts a month beforehand. I also know that when this post goes out I'll be working on my posts for the month of June. It really keeps you on track if you plan your posts ahead.

Photos or no?
One part of blog posts is deciding whether you want to add photos to your post. Personally, I've been really enjoying adding more photos to my post because it really makes the blog post even better when you can see the visuals. Sometimes you need to plan out what kind of photos you're going to have. I like to take photos and work my posts around them. For example if I'm doing a photo journal or a routine post but sometimes you need to have a simple photoshoot for posts like favourites where you're showing different things you've been enjoying in the month. I like to use my iPhone 11 to take photos as it always works for me and I like how they turned out. However, when it comes to your own blog you can take photos however you want to because it's your blog.

Just write
Honestly, sometimes the best thing to do is to just write your blog post. Sometimes you just have to write what you feel. Sometimes there's only so much planning for a post you can do but sometimes it's easier to just let the words flow. I sometimes bullet point subheadings for particular posts then when it comes down to writing the contents of each subheading I just type away when I'm working on the post itself. Sometimes, your ideas come to mind and I'm not too fussed if it's completely perfect as I know it's a first draft before I edit it. Sometimes it's better to have words than nothing at all. Sometimes when it comes to planning your blog post, all you have to do is write.

Spell and grammar check
This is a crucial element to planning your posts is making sure the spelling and grammar is on point. I normally just copy and paste the entire post then put it in a google document before going through the spell and grammar check. It really helps me out to see where I may have missed a spelling mistake or the grammar doesn't make sense. I know there's other professional tools you can use to go the extra mile but sometimes all you need is a word document's spell and grammar check. It really helps out in the long run.

Preview your post and make any adjustments
Once I've done the editing to my spelling and grammar, I take a moment to preview my post to see how it looks. See if it flows okay and makes sense. I check the photos and paragraphs are all aligned okay. I make any adjustments I need to then I have a final read through just to be safe as it's always good to triple check your posts.

Publish your post
Finally it's time to publish your post and set it free for the world to read.

There we have it. Those are my tips on how to plan blog posts. Let me know if any of these were helpful to you when it comes to planning your blog posts.
