Time Management

Time management is a crucial element when it comes to being an adult. Before you know it, time slips away and suddenly you don't have much time left to do what you're supposed to. Your time may revolve around you going to work and coming home then not doing anything that you're supposed to. Instead you procrastinate and decide I'll do it later but soon later goes. Now it's time for bed, so you tell yourself you'll do it tomorrow then the same process happens again. It's really important to manage your time wisely so that you can have a more productive day and also so your day doesn't feel the same everyday. I thought I'd share five tips on how to manage your time wisely so that you have more fulfilling days.

1. Wake up early
Give yourself more time by waking up early. My morning routine is pretty much the same everyday as I know it takes me an hour to get ready for work and it gives me time to wake up at that time. I will never understand the people that wake up at five in the morning and go to the gym or do all their chores but maybe that is helpful to them. Getting all your chores done before you even leave the house. Plus waking up early makes the day feel longer but it's important you're not tempted to take a long nap halfway through the day or as soon as you finish work because that would just mess with your sleep pattern. As you grow as an adult, you get so used to waking up earlier that you may as well start today to make sure you have enough time in the day to do what you want to do.

2. To Do Lists
I live on making lists and having a daily to do list can keep you on track on the tasks for the day. Of course don't write every single thing you need to get done or else your list will be long and you might find it a bit overwhelming to complete. Be realistic and prioritise tasks that you need to get done. Whether that's doing things around the house, going to work, working on a project etc. Whatever it is you need to do write it down but be realistic to how much you can do in the day. Also do the thing you're least looking forward to doing first on the list then once that's completed the rest of the list will go smoothly for you. I live off of doing lists and they really help me to manage my time wisely.

3. Learn to say no
Sometimes, you may have to decline invitations or extra work because you just don't have enough time in the day to do everything. I know you may want to be a people pleaser but sometimes you gotta put yourself first. Sometimes you have to say no and that's okay. If you explain your reasoning that you already have too much on your plate then they should understand that you can't take on more work. Prioritising what's important is key to good time management and some tasks can be left for another day.

4. Avoid multitasking
Multitasking can cause you to easily be distracted. Plus risk mixing up your tasks and nothing is close to being completed. Prioritise one task at a time and focus on that task until it's complete. Don't work on multiple tasks at once because that can be overwhelming for you and before you know it you won't feel like doing anything anymore. Multitasking is great in some aspects especially if you're trying to keep ahead of the game but sometimes it's confusing especially if you have very little time in the day to complete certain tasks which require your full attention. Try to avoid multitasking as you may think it will save you time but really it doesn't.

5. Off days are allowed
You're allowed to have an off day every now and then because we all deserve time to just chill out and not do a lot. Sometimes, being overly productive makes us forget what brings us joy in our lives. On the off days, do something you really enjoy whether it's playing a video game, reading a book, binge watching a series or just going out shopping. Doing something you enjoy every once in a while can really refresh your brain and you can also see it as a reward for being so productive throughout the week. It's okay to have an off day every now and then as long as you don't make a habit. It's really about balance between work and play. Of course the work and productive tasks come first every time but sometimes you could end up feeling overworked, burned out or unmotivated to keep going then that's the time to play and relax. Take a breather. Do something you enjoy then before you know it, you can go back to being productive after being refreshed.

There we have it. Those are my top five tips for time management. Let me know if you have any other tips for dealing with time management in the comments below. I would love to hear them.
