Cinema Etiquette
In recent times I’ve noticed cinema etiquette seems to go right out the window. Whether it’s people checking their phones or talking or just sitting so close to you even when there’s no assigned seating. Let me just tell you that, if you’re checking your phone during the cinema. You’re not being subtle. Everyone can see the bright screen. Even if you turn the brightness down, it’s still in everyone’s line of sight. Going to the cinema isn’t cheap and it’s an experience. It’s a chance to escape for some people which means not checking your phone for two hours. If you’re really concerned about checking your phone, take it outside for a couple of minutes or better yet, sit at the back of the theatre so nobody can see you. It’s always the people that sit near the front that check their phones and maybe they’re oblivious to people behind them but guess what when you check your phone, everyone’s eyes are on you. Which is really frustrating because I'm supposed to be looking at the big screen.
I feel like cinemas need to incorporate more warnings and really let it sink in that people should switch their phones off during the movie. I still remember old adverts cinema used to do, I’m pretty sure there was one with a Lara Croft lookalike that was shown in the 2000s. I just feel like something needs to be done to remind people how they should behave in a cinema and remind them that other people are watching the movie too, not just them.
I just feel like this generation is slowly losing the joy of escaping away for two to three hours and watching a movie. I really enjoy the whole experience of going to the cinema, even watching the adverts and trailers for the movies. I love it. Then watching the movie itself and engrossing myself in it but the magic’s gone as soon as I see the lit up phone screen in the corner of my eye. Then my focus is on them and wondering how they can be so rude to check their phone. Can people not bear to be without their phones so long and if so why are you in the cinema? It’s about £20 to watch the movie with snacks and people want to enjoy their money's worth. Not have their attention pulled away from the big screen by a mini screen.
Anyway, that is what I have to say on cinema etiquette. Let me know your thoughts on it and hopefully any owners of cinemas read this and incorporate the rules more. Especially with phones.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and I’ll be back soon with another post.
