December Favourites
Well, here we are. The last post of 2024. I can't quite believe we're at the end of the year. It just flew by this year and I feel like so much has happened this year. As is an end of the month tradition on this blog, here are all the things I've been loving this month. Let's get started.
Blood Brothers
I watched this musical in the Palace Theatre in Manchester at the end of last month and I honestly fell in love with it. I downloaded the album and I've been listening to it on repeat. It's such a unique story, how two brothers are separated at birth and go on to live two separate lives in different social classes but yet they don't let that stop their friendship. It has the innocence of childhood to growing into your teenage years to facing the reality of adulthood. It's such a sweet but also heartbreaking story. I even went and bought the book to read so I can relive the story again as well as watching clips on YouTube. I'm so fascinated by it that I would love the chance to go watch it again soon. I think it's one of those shows that does well only in the theatre. I'm not sure how I'd feel if they ever make a movie or TV show about it but I'm sure it will inevitably happen. At least I don't think it's happened yet. Anyway, I've really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack and watching clips of Blood Brothers this month which is why it's one of my favourites of the month.
It Ends With Us By Colleen Hoover
I saw everyone talking about this book for the past year and I’ve been meaning to read it but I wanted to read other books before this one. My stepmom then loaned me her copy saying I should read it so I decided to pick it up and read it after getting through the majority of my bookshelf. I knew that it was just your standard romance story and I heard about the themes of the book so I was prepared before getting into it. I’m not sure if I was glad I knew before reading or wishing I didn’t. I guess I wasn’t shocked when it happened and knew it was coming but obviously like with most situations like this, it’s not always clear in the beginning. In fact I thought Lily and Ryle’s relationship was sweet in the beginning so it was still sad when what occurs later on in their relationship. It’s just one of those situations where you hope never happens to you or anyone close to you. Sadly though it does happen and it’s horrible. This story felt very real when I was reading it and I couldn’t put it down. I was worried this book had been so overhyped online but honestly, I recommend reading this book because it’s a very real, heartbreaking but also moving story. I’m glad I read it this month and I wasn’t considering reading the sequel but I might just have to now.
Gavin and Stacey
Like everyone in the UK, I was excited when they announced the finale episode will be shown on Christmas Day. I was wondering what they were going to do. Was it going to be a will they, won't they situation with Smithy and Nessa? Will we ever find out what happened on that fishing trip? I spent the majority of my September watching episodes of the series to remind me why this is such a good series that never gets old. It's just relatable to family life and as someone who has a mixed family of English and Welsh I can relate so much to them. We all know someone in our lives like Bryn or Pam and I think that's what makes this series so good. You can find someone you relate to on it and it gives that sense of familiarity. That's why I was so excited to watch the Finale and don't worry, I'm not going to spoil it for you but it was an hour and half of greatness. It was like watching a film of characters you know and love for one last time. I cried, I laughed. It was just the perfect ending to the series. Ruth Jones and James Cordon are geniuses at what they've created. I can't even fault any part of the ending. It was just perfect. Gavin and Stacey is one of those series that will go on forever and be a classic series that will be watched throughout the years. I'll never get tired of it and that finale really is the cherry on top of the series. Definitely one of my favourite series of all time.
Christmas
Of course, I can't forget about Christmas. It was definitely one of those years that took some time to really get into and it didn't even feel like Christmas on the week of Christmas. Even Christmas Eve I was in bed and didn't get the Christmas buzz you normally get where you can't sleep. I think that's just a sign of getting old. However, the day itself was really nice. We had lots of things to watch on the Television from Eastenders to Gavin and Stacey. Plus my mum made Christmas dinner which was so tasty. I had my Grandparents over so we weren't alone. It was just a nice and simple Christmas. Definitely got into the Christmas spirit on the day. Although nothing beats the post Christmas dinner nap which I knew I needed for the evening's entertainment. Definitely had a nice Christmas this year.
There we have it. Those are my favourites for December. Let me know what you enjoyed this month, I'd love to hear it. Thank you for taking the time to view my blog this year, it truly means a lot to me. I wish you all a very Happy New Year and I'll see you soon.
See you then.
