January Favourites
Finally, we reach the end of January which means it's time for monthly favourites. I feel like January has gone on forever that I haven't had many favourites for this month but I wanted to share the few favourites I did have this month. Let's get started.
Better Man
I saw this movie last Friday and I didn't realise how emotional it would make me. It's a biographical film of Robbie Williams. Except it has a difference. He is portrayed in a monkey form which is definitely a unique way of telling a biographical story. Yet it made a lot of sense because as Robbie Williams said himself, he doesn't feel fully evolved. This story was definitely an emotional one because it shows the rawness of his mental health and issues he's had over the years with substances. It's heartbreaking at times and I found myself crying a lot because there was a lot I could relate to in this story. It's little details because I have gone through a lot of fights with myself mentally. I've also experienced heartbreak from family and life. I'm fortunate that I've never gotten myself into any kind of substance abuse but I do understand why people go down that route and it's very hard to get out of it. Mental health is definitely something that doesn't get taken seriously enough and everyone is going through different struggles. That's why you should always be kind to people because guaranteed that person has said a lot of worse things about themselves. As someone who has a whole list of things wrong with them, I can relate to that feeling of having inner demons tearing you down. Anyway, I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was well told about a man who has gone through a lot of struggles in his life and deserves to be one of Britain's greatest entertainers.
Harry Potter PS2 Games
I always come back to playing the old Harry Potter games. They are so nostalgic for me and I just love playing them even though I know every secret, card and the whole game inside out. It brings back a lot of memories, especially to the times, I didn't have walkthroughs and had to work everything out on my own. An example is in the Chamber of Secrets, there's one lost item on the notice board that I couldn't find for ages. I remember walking around every inch of the grounds trying to find it. Then one day just by chance, I was walking and came across it and that feeling of finally finding an item you were looking for ages was completely satisfying. Now, I can easily find that item but I do remember how long it took me to find it. It just brings a lot of nostalgia for me and I love playing old PS2 games. Especially Harry Potter. They were some of the best games out there and I definitely enjoyed playing some of them this month.
The Spare Room by Laura Starkey
This was such a sweet feel good will they, won’t they story. It’s about Rosie who after expecting a proposal but ends up being dumped by her boyfriend of ten years. With fear of not being able to afford her flat, she needs to get a new flag mate. Aled, who lives in the same building, needs a place to stay while his flat is being renovated. That’s when an idea strikes and Rosie offers his spare room. Suddenly going from neighbours that barely know each other to flat mates, Rosie who has sworn off men since her ex is now living with one. It causes Rosie to fight with her feelings as she gets to know Aled. I loved this story and the relationship between the two flatmates is very sweet. I think it is a little predictable about what happens in the end but this was a cute story that I loved all the same. I’ve never read any of Laura Starkey books before but I thoroughly enjoyed this one and got me with all the feels. Plus I love the representation and body positively, the fact Aled was Welsh is nice because I’m pretty sure I’ve never read a book that had a Welsh person in it. Definitely a nice touch from someone who lives in Wales. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a cute feel good story.
There we have it. Those are my monthly favourites in January. Thank you for taking the time to view my blog and I'll be back again soon with another post.
See you then.
